.io games are a popular massively multiplayer genre of games, usually free to play. The point of many games is to make it simple to learn but difficult to master. Some lesser-known have many bots to provide at least a semblance of activity, while other, more popular games, such as Agar.io, Diep.io, and Wormate.io, are so popular that bots are not required. New .io games are released nearly every week. There are large databases of .io games, some larger than others. The purpose of this community is to bring together every .io game.

What are .io Games?

.io games are a relatively new genre of video games that emphasizes simplicity and speed. The general mantra of .io games is; keeping game mechanics very simple, matched by basic graphics and an ability to play multiplayer games at the click of a mouse. These key features allow the games to be easily consumed and played to a high level of satisfaction over the course of a 5 - 10 minute period. While .io games are easy to learn, they are difficult to master.

Why Do .io Games use the .io Extension?

Agar.io was the first game. The domain Agar.io was suggested by a user on 4chan, simply because all other related names like cell.com and cell.io were taken. At the time of naming the .io top level domain extension was relatively new and the price was very high. So many dictionary term domains were still available. .io is the Internet domain ID for the British Indian Ocean Territory. Since few few domains are registered, and .io seemed unique enough, it was readily used and accepted.
